THE STORY OF THE ANCIENT FISH GRENDELS

Sitting on the highest level of the Meso on his ship, the Lone Banshee was going over his thoughts.
Looking around, it would be clear to most that a banshee owned this ship-grendel eggs were piled up in random locations, and grendels were just as abundant.
And yet-unlike most banshee, he had plenty of norns and ettins as well. However, getting the norns, ettins, and grendels to get along was somewhat tough. He had hardman norns who insisted on picking fights with his dusky grendels, the latter being mostly peaceful and not interested in rumbles. His normal grendels loved to attack the chichi norns, and his bondis were regularly assaulted by his aquatic grendels.
All this chaos was too much for him occasionally, like now.
After getting up and having to tie up a banshee grendel who was about to attack a Bengal, he decided there was one way to escape this-why not dust off the old Warp Portal and take a trip?
He went to the Workshop, and after activating the warp, he punched in random numbers, he jumped in.

He wound up in a cave of sorts. Getting to his feet, the Lone Banshee took a look around.
The cave was apparently filled with water-he could see the ripple reflections on the ceiling. Walking over to one side, he saw a strange circular object directly across from him that resembled a black window-perhaps it was a door? In between him and the object, there was water. In the shallows opposite of him, he could see long-leaved, green plants, rippling with the water around them. Occasionally, one released 3-5 green seeds, and disappeared. From the seeds came more of the plants. In the deeper water, the Lone Banshee could see reddish shrimp swimming around. When one accidentally pumped its tail hard enough to propel it above water, it turned grey, flipped over, and floated back down to the bottom. In addition to these shrimp, he could see two larger, purple ones, as well as a single, massive, blue/white shrimp.
So interested was the Lone Banshee in this, it took him a couple minutes to realize he was being watched.
Turning around, he could see a pair of blue eyes looking at him from the water area on the other side of the apparent island upon which the Lone Banshee stood.
When he made eye contact, the owner of the eyes quickly sunk. He ran over to the other side, and managed to see, through the ripples of the surface and amidst swarms of shrimp, a blue creature, swimming down quickly.
The Lone Banshee got excited-could it be a grendel?
Still watching it as it moved away from the surface, he came to his own conclusion: yes, it was a grendel!
He leaned over to get a good look at it, and accidentally fell in the water!
Coming to his senses rather quickly, he managed to spot the grendel, now looking at him from afar, holding one of the red shrimp.
The Lone Banshee swam after the grendel. Upon seeing his approach, the grendel got panicked and swam away again.
Following it (him?), the Lone Banshee took a look at the flora and fauna of this place. In addition to the shrimp and green plants, there were blue, bell-shaped creatures with tentacles hanging underneath of them-jellyfish? Occasionally, a smaller, red jellyfish with only two tentacles darted between the larger ones. Whales swam around in family groups; each led by a darker whale.
The bottoms of the caverns were not only covered by the green plants, but also by different plants with blue bulbs at their tops. In addition, there were multi-colored corals in between the patches of the other two plants.
Keeping his focus on pursuing the blue grendel, the lone banshee thought if he were to stay underwater longer, his lungs would pop.
He had to go up. With some dismay, he returned to the top island, taking a big gasp of air, and clambered ashore. He took out the warp device, punched in the numbers of his home Capillata, and returned to his home.
However, he quickly gathered up some scuba gear, and quickly gengineered some aquatic hardman norns to help him round up the blue grendel. He also grabbed a capture net to help him snare a couple specimens.
Returning to the warp portal with his aqua hardmans and his gear, he leapt back into the warp, followed by the hardmen.
He was relieved he had wound up in the same place, the water-filled cavern. He took 15 minutes to put on the scuba gear. Around him, the aqua hardmen were starting to get a little impatient.
Finally, he was ready, and he dove into the water, followed by the norns.
He led the party down, and it didnt take him long to find the grendel. Upon seeing him with the hardmans, he turned tail and swam away quickly.
With the exception of 2 that decided to stay and nibble on the green and bulb plants seeds, the hardmen quickly followed the Lone Banshee as he chased the blue grendel.
The group began to gain on the grendel.
Suddenly, the Lone Banshee stopped in confusion.
The blue grendel had led them to an entire school of his kind. Some were adults, others babies and adolescents. The one they were following was a child, it seemed.
After several seconds, the Lone Banshee sent the hardmans to try and herd the swarm. Eagerly, the norns darted forwards.
Turns out, the grendels were a bit hard to even follow, let alone round up. Every time the hardmen darted into the school, the grendels swam away in all directions, confusing the norns with a sea of blue.
Sighing, the lone banshee went into the group and picked up his net.
He swung it as the school of grendels swam past him. He felt something heavy get tangled in the net.
Closing the top of the net closed with his hand, he noted with pleasure he had caught two of the blue grendels-one male, one female. Close-up, he realized they resembled banshee grendels.
Motioning to his hardmen, he began to swim up towards the surface. The norns noticed him leaving, and followed.
When he finally reached the surface and returned to his home, he released the two grendels into Aquatopia, and took notes on some of their features. The grendels were slow to age, ate very little, and had no tendency to use the telelifts or doors.
After some thinking, he finally decide to name the grendels species Ancient Fish, since they aged slow and apparently evolved in the caves he found them in, and had lived there for who-knows-how-long.
